How We're Different From TinyPNG, iLoveIMG and Canva
The big-name "free" image tools all share a common architecture: you upload a file, their servers process it, and you download the result. That model creates three problems we deliberately avoid — your photos sit on someone else's hard drive, you hit daily upload caps, and you wait in a server queue. ImageGates runs the same algorithms (mozJPEG, WebP encoders, the ISNet segmentation model for background removal) directly inside your browser using WebAssembly. Result: faster results on most modern devices, no upload bandwidth used, and a real privacy guarantee rather than a promise in a privacy policy.

Country specifications on ImageGates are sourced directly from issuing authorities: the U.S. Department of State, His Majesty's Passport Office (المملكة المتحدة), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship كندا (IRCC), the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (Passport Seva), the شنغن visa consulates' published guidance, the Australian Passport Office, the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Republic of الصين (تايوان), اليابان's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and equivalent bodies for the other 180+ jurisdictions we cover. Specifications are reviewed quarterly. The "Last updated" timestamp on everyصفحة جواز سفر الدولةوصفحة صورة التأشيرةreflects the most recent verification date. When an authority changes its requirements — for example, the U.S. State Department's 2016 ban on glasses, or the المملكة المتحدة's 2023 update to digital submission resolution — we update the affected pages within 7 days and record the change in our internal changelog.
كيف نمت ImageGates سنة بعد سنة
The first version of ImageGates was a single page that did one thing: crop a photograph to 35 by 45 millimetres and tell you whether the head height fell inside the range a consulate would accept. It existed because a family member had a visa appointment in three days and the nearest studio wanted twenty-five dollars for four prints. That page went online in 2023 and was used a few dozen times a week, mostly by people who had been sent a link directly.
What followed was driven almost entirely by what those early users asked for next. A request to shrink a photo under a portal's upload cap became the compressor. A request to turn a scanned application form into an editable document became the PDF tools. A request for the same passport page in Spanish became the multilingual build, which now covers English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Arabic, including full right-to-left layout rather than a mirrored afterthought. The country library grew the same way — one jurisdiction at a time, added when somebody needed it, verified before it shipped.
Today the site covers more than seventy tools and specifications for over 190 jurisdictions, and the original constraint has not moved: it still has to work on a cheap phone, in a browser, without an account, for someone who is short of time and stressed about a deadline.

Nothing ships on the strength of a demo with a clean studio photograph. Every tool is put through the files people actually bring: a HEIC image straight from an iPhone, a poorly lit photograph taken against a patterned wall, a forty-page scanned PDF with no text layer, a transparent PNG, a file big enough to make an older Android browser stumble. If a tool cannot survive those inputs or cannot fail gracefully with a message that explains what to do next, it is not finished.
Each release is then checked on a real phone screen as well as a desktop, in every one of the five supported languages, with Arabic verified for layout direction rather than just for wording. Automated tests cover the compliance rules and the conversion maths, because a specification that quietly drifts is far more damaging than a button that visibly breaks.

The largest group by far is people in the middle of an application: a visa, a passport renewal, a residency card, a national exam registration, a professional licence. They typically need one photograph or one converted document, once, under time pressure, and they will never think about the site again — which is exactly the intended relationship. Alongside them are freelancers and small-business owners preparing product images and marketing files, teachers and administrators converting documents, and a steady number of people helping a parent or a relative through paperwork in a language that is not their first.
That mix explains most of our product decisions: no account requirement, no daily quota on previews, plain-language wording instead of technical labels, and a price for the people who need a clean high-resolution export that is a fraction of a photo-studio visit.

Editorial and commercial decisions are kept separate: the researchers who verify passport and visa specifications have no involvement in advertising or affiliate placements, and no advertiser sees content before it is published.
