O que é reversível: - Light Gaussian blur on text can be reversed or brute-forced. For a known font and a limited character set — a licence plate, a card number, a postcode — the search space is small enough to test every candidate against the blur. - Coarse pixelation of text has the same weakness; the famous cases of "unswirled" and de-pixelated images relied on exactly this. - Layer-based editing where the blur is a separate layer. Exporting to a layered format keeps the original pixels underneath.
O que não é reversível: - A solid opaque block over the region. Nothing survives. - Very heavy blur where the region is reduced to a handful of average colours — the information is genuinely gone, but judging "heavy enough" by eye is unreliable. - Blur applied and then flattened and re-encoded as a new JPEG, discarding the original pixels.
For faces, blur is generally sufficient in the privacy sense, since recognition requires detail that heavy blur destroys. For text, numbers and codes, use a solid block.
Metadata is the other half. Blurring a house in a photo does nothing if the file still carries GPS coordinates in its EXIF data. Re-saving through a browser-based editor typically strips EXIF, but verify before publishing.
Lista de verificação antes de compartilhar: 1. Cover identifiers with solid blocks, faces with heavy blur. 2. Flatten and re-export as a new file. 3. Confirm location metadata is gone. 4. Look at reflections, screens and background documents — they leak more often than the obvious subject.
How to use this tool
- Carregar imagem — Upload the photo containing sensitive information you need to hide.
- Selecione áreas desfocadas — Draw rectangles or circles over the areas you want to blur — faces, text, plates, etc.
- Baixar a imagem desfocada — Download the privacy-protected image safe for sharing online.
Guide
Use sufficient blur intensity — if you can still make out features, increase the blur 2. Blur slightly larger than the sensitive area to prevent edge reconstruction 3. Apply blur uniformly — inconsistent blur draws attention 4. Double-check all sensitive elements before sharing 5. Consider that metadata (EXIF) may contain location data — strip it separately
Perguntas frequentes
