Croatia became the 27th Schengen member in 2023, removing internal borders with Slovenia, Hungary and Italy. The country sees enormous summer-season tourism along the Adriatic coast.

Croatia joined the Schengen Area on 1 January 2023. Croatian embassies and VFS Global jointly process Schengen visa applications worldwide.
Processing time
Croatian consulates have adapted well to Schengen volume; 10–20 days is typical, with summer peaks reaching 30 days.
Travel insurance
Schengen-standard €30,000+ insurance required. Verify the policy explicitly lists 'Croatia' (some pre-2023 policies still excluded it).
Photo requirements
35×45 mm biometric photo to Schengen standards. Croatian posts are flexible on head-tilt but strict on background uniformity.
